Pomfret Town Offices

The Town of Pomfret, Vermont determined that an old, unused one-room school house in the center of town would make the ideal location for a new Town Office.  The school had only been used occasionally for community meetings.  It lacked handicap accessibility, a reliable heat system, and proper storage for town records.

UK Architects renovated the interior of the building to provide separate offices for the town clerk, treasurer, and listers.  An addition to the back of the building provided a new, accessible entrance, an accessible restroom, and a fireproof vault for storage of town records.  New, energy efficient windows replaced old, drafty windows, and insulation was added to the attic and 60% of the exterior walls.  The interior finishes were designed to be in-keeping with the original school house.

Now the Town Offices provide functional office space, safe storage for records, displays of town history, and a comfortable place for town officials and community groups to meet.

“On behalf of the residents of Pomfret, we wish to express our sincere appreciation for the outstanding work you performed to renovate the Pomfret Center School into new Town offices. From start to finish, your expertise and professionalism were most impressive. We were very impressed by your ability to work with the listers, Town treasurer, Town clerk and the selectboard to design the new offices. You listened to us and came up with a final plan that pleased everyone. The old, under-utilized school has been transformed into one of the best Town offices in the region. We have received lots of favorable comments from the public...thank you for a job well done.”
